REPENTANCE FOR FORGIVENESS


"and He said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ would suffer and rise again from the dead the third day, and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem." ( Luke 24:46-47)


How Sin Came About

The first book of the Bible (Genesis) records how Adam and Eve (the first humans) were very privileged; living in a beautiful garden made specially by God for them. They lacked nothing, they had dominion over everything else God created by God, and they were very close friends with God. But with time, Adam and Eve fell off from their special relationship with God, through disobedience. They would not accept responsibility for the offense both of them were guilty of.


Adam and his wife lost the special relationship and privilege they had been enjoying from God. This is how sin entered the world and has persisted up to today. This falling away by the whole human race from our relationship with God is referred to as the sin of the world.


We All Have Sinned

As a matter of fact, and according to the Bible we (human beings) have all sinned and lost our special relationship with God. All the hardships, and chaos of the world, including death, came about as a result of sin. It says "the wages of sin is death…..", 


Death as referred to here means, first of all, separation from God. It refers to the falling away of man from God's grace and glory. This finally leads to condemnation in hell, which isn't the plan of God for mankind, but that of the devil who started it all by deceiving man to disobey God from the very beginning. 


God Made A Way Out

Yet, God is a good and loving father and has made a way out for us. Though we have sinned and heading toward destruction, the Word of God also says "but the true gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus".


He has made a way out for us through His own Son Jesus Christ. Yes, God sent Jesus to take the punishment due to you and me even by suffering at the hands of wicked people and dying in our stead. But that's not all, for as you read in the verse above, He rose again on the third day from the dead, having overcome death and hell for mankind.


Need For Repentance

You'd therefore agree with me that it is necessary for man to have an attitudinal change towards how we live morally. Without a change of heart for the better, if we continue to live disrespectfully towards God's expectations, the grace of God towards our redemption will still not benefit our souls. "What does it benefit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his own soul?"  


Dear reader, your soul is very important because it is that which continues into eternity, whether in eternal glory or eternal suffering. Cheer up because as you read earlier, God has already made a way in Jesus. It's a free gift and all you have to do is to stretch yourself with a repentant heart and in prayer to God and receive it.

Invitation

Would you accept God's gracious gift of forgiveness through His Son Jesus? He wants to be a friend who is closer than a brother to you. If you'd open the door of your heart to God, He will come into your life and change your life for the better. He will fill every emptiness and give you satisfaction and meaning to life. Your sins will be blotted out, they'd not be remembered anymore, and you'd become a brand new person in Jesus. 


Prayer

You may invite Jesus into your life, saying the following to Him in prayer:


Thank you, God, for letting Jesus die for me a sinner. I repent from my sins. Come into my life and take over. Be my Lord and savior. Today, I commit my life to you. To live for you, and die for you. Turn my life around for the better. Amen.

(John 3:16) When I was little, I used to be very afraid of life after death. Some nights, in bed, I would reflect on my sins. I just knew I was doomed to hell because I had gotten to hear in Sunday School about the existence of hell and heaven. I had never heard about God being a loving God, so I only saw Him as this judge who would one day have me cast into this lake of fire where I would suffer eternally.
